For Ingrid

Smile!

Just watched got my pregnant, emotional brain rocked watching The Business of Being Born. Wow. I laughed, I cried twice. Now I have some real research to do. I think I'm sliding quickly back toward my hippie, Oregonian roots. Once the emotions come down, I'll be raiding the experience closet of an OB nurse friend of mine whom I trust deeply. I need advice. This birthing thing may not be as scary as I thought. I know for sure there will be no epidural, no pitosin and no C-section, unless the life of baby or me is threatened. How I will accomplish this is something of a mystery. But I am determined to enjoy birth, to be present, to remember it, even if - correction - even though it will hurt. This kind of pain is worth it. I'm sure of it.

Good for you for coming up with a plan for you! I hope you get the birth experience that you want. I had both the epidural and the pitocin (induced)and I can tell you if it wasn't for the pitocin I most likely wouldn't have had the epidural. That being said though I don't regret it. Keep the updates coming, I love to read them! And maybe one of these days I'll get to see you and we can talk or something. :)
P.S. The word verification was rawlick. Strange

This picture is much better. I mean aren't you supposed to be smiling throughout your whole pregnancy?

You look amazing! I like the smiling pictures better, too. :)

You're a brave woman for going the "no drugs" route, but I know you can do it.

Home birth?? (I don't even know if that's 'legal' in Kansas) Interested in what all you guys are weighing and what you eventually decide. :)

Yea, not sure if home birth is a possibility. Having said that, if you go into labor and "can't get to the hospital in time", you have your baby where you can. Sneaky? I wonder if it's an option. I am going to talk with my nurse friend and see what my options are. I really think I can do it naturally if I take the next 4 months to prepare myself. I'll keep everyone posted for sure.

My sister-in-law told me about that movie a while back and advocates all women to see it. I have not yet. My mother-in-law had all her boys at home (of course!) Not only does it sound romantic, but it seems natural, doesn't it? You could definitely be sneaky though. A friend of mine went to the hospital to deliver and the intern sent her home saying it wasn't yet time. Her husband "caught" his new daughter about an hour later, at home. He said he had the McGyvor theme song running thru his head the entire time. After it was over and the adrenaline ran out, he nearly passed out.

Oh, baby stories.
